Holes and cracks in drywall or plaster, made to disappear into the wall around them.
What we patch
- Doorknob holes, and the dent a handle keeps hitting.
- Anchors that pulled out and tore the paper around them.
- Cracks over doorways and at the corners of windows.
- Stains from a leak that has since been fixed.
Why a patch can take two visits
Joint compound shrinks as it dries, so it goes on in thin coats with drying time between them. A small hole takes quick-setting compound and is usually done in one visit. Anything bigger than your hand gets a new piece of drywall on a backer, then tape and two or three coats. That patch can need a night between coats, so the written price counts a second two-hour window the next day or one long visit.

Texture, then paint
Most Los Angeles walls carry an orange peel or knockdown texture, and houses built before the 1950s often have smooth plaster. The patch gets the wall's texture, then primer, since bare compound would dry a different sheen. Faded paint can mean painting the wall from one inside corner to the next.
How a patch visit goes
- A photo of the damage. Text one with a coin or tape measure in it. It helps us size your window.
- You get a written price and a two-hour window. When our handyman leaves the job before yours, you get a text with the time he'll be at your door.
- Cut square. Drop cloths go down first, then the damage is cut back to a clean square and backed.
- Texture to match. Then primer, and paint once it's all dry.
- A lamp along the wall. Raking light shows any edge the eye would miss, and we sand it out before we pack up.
What adds time to a patch
The visit covers the trip and the first hour of work, then time goes in half-hour steps. The written price comes before we start, and nothing bigger goes ahead without your OK.
- The size of the damage. A hole that needs a new piece of drywall takes more coats than one a mesh patch will cover.
- Plaster. It goes on in more layers than drywall, and loose plaster around a crack is fixed back to the lath first.
- How many patches. Several holes on one visit run on the same half-hour steps, so the trip is paid once.
What you get
- A wall you can look across without finding the patch, ready for paint or painted.
- The itemized invoice and a photo of the finished work come by text the same day.
- Our work is covered for a year from the date on your invoice. If something we fixed or installed stops working in that year, call and we book a return window at no charge. Parts we supplied are covered by the company that made them.
Before the patch goes on
What does a drywall patch cost?
The visit, plus half-hour steps past the first hour. A large patch, or a second visit while it dries, adds steps.
There's a water stain on the wall. Can you fix it?
Yes, as soon as the drywall behind it has dried out. A stain-sealing primer keeps it from bleeding into the new paint. Fixing the leak itself is work for a plumber or a roofer, and you hear that on the call, before we book a window.
